For you to be employed as a professional hairdresser, you need at least level 3 hairdressing nvq. It doesn't matter if this is in Scotland, where you will do an SNVQ, with the Scottish Hairdressing NVQs being the same as the English Hairdressing NVQ certificate. So it doesn't matter if you qualify in England or Scotland you can still work in either!

Colleges all up and down the country offer a Hairdressing NVQ, with lots of different courses available. The flexibility of the courses mean that you can choose one that really suits you, with different courses having an emphasis on different aspects of hairdressing whether at a Beauty and Therapy college, or a standard college. Just take time to research which course suits you best and which you find most interesting. You will need to buy some equipment such as specialist scissors and combs etc and these will cost several hundred pounds in total.
